Wimbledon was the first Grand Slam to transmit in tv format in 1938. In 1967 it was also the first Slam to be transmittted in colour.

Die-hard fans usually start queing from the Saturday before the Championships begin, with improvised beds, tents, and sleeping equipment.

He had been a player, coach, and was friend to many of the all time greats, so knew the game inside out. With his death in 1992, Wimbledon and the world of tennis lost one of its greatest characters.
