Pete Sampras is regarded by many as the greatest grass court player of all time. His powerful, consistent, serve and volley style was perfect 
for the lush courts of SW19, and the reason why he won the Championship 7 times. Nicknamed "Pistol Pete", Sampras's hard, fast, skidding laser-like serve was difficult to read and return when it spun off the Wimbledon grass, and his gymnastic style at the net made him entertaining for the crowd, and very difficult to pass. He recently said that he would still play serve and volley if he were playing today!
