The first and only tennis Open on film

Wimbledon, made in 2004, is the only tennis Open to have a film made about it. This Rom-Com is about Peter(Paul Bettany), the main character and failing star, who finds love with Lizzie (Kirsten Dunst), and eventually wins the Championships. Pat Cash was one of the films advisors and trained some of the actors. Some scenes were actually filmed during the 2003 tournament - the first time any Grand Slam has done this. Other scenes were filmed at Stoke Poges, home of the prestigious Boodles grass court tournament - a warm up for Wimbledon.

With the reach of a basketball player and the punch of a boxer, Stich blasted his German compatriot, Becker, off the court in just 3 sets, playing a serve and volley-like game.

Stich had a fluent style, with crisp volleys, heavy groundstrokes, and short rallies. He was at home equally on the grass or on a hardcourt. Always in the shadow of his fellow German, Boris Becker, Stich showed the depth of mens German tennis in the late 1980s and early 1990s with his Wimbledon success.

Stich has been criticized for his sexist comments towards the womens game, about their noise levels and grunting. That's just not British, Michael !

Fastest serve
