1988 - the first Wimbledon mens singles final played over two days due to rain and completed on Monday (see also Goran Ivanisevic v Pat Rafter, 2001).
The "nicest" player to win the mens title !
After a brilliant junior career that netted him several Grand Slams, Edberg beat his great rival Boris Becker in two Wimbledon finals, 1988 and 1990. The Swede played a lovely serve and volley style, using chip-and-charge, with kick and slice, beautiful graceful old-fashioned tennis, to win the Championships twice.
Known for his unflappable temperament, and smooth gliding on the grass, Edberg rarely questioned line calls, and showed indifference to unlucky net cord balls, earning him the reputution as one of the "coolest", balanced players to ever grace the Centre Court.
Edberg has recently been coach to Roger Federer.
