After 77 years of waiting the British public finally got a British mens singles champion at Wimbledon when Andy Murray lifted the trophy on Centre Court, after beating Novak Djokovic in 3 sets.
The previous winner of the mens singles title to represent Great Britain was Fred Perry in 1934-1936, when the Championships were still very much on an amateur status.
The great Fred Perry - who won 3 Wimbledon singles titles in the 1930s - 1934, 1935 and 1936.
Murray's 2013 Wimbledon success meant that he became the first Bitish player to win the mens singles title in the Open era, and was awarded an OBE for his services to tennis - truly a great sporting success for the British public.
The first Wimbledon champion in a kilt! Murray married his girlfriend, Kim Sears, on 11th April 2015 in his hometown of Dunblane,Scotland.

Davis Cup player,Jamie Delgado, below, who lives near to Wimbledon, is now assistant coach to Murray, along with Ivan Lendl. He and Lendl have been active in Murray's 2016 training, giving him the Wimbledon Singles title for the second time.
